With his audacious counsel for married men, Nigerian music producer Michael Collins Ajereh, better known by his stage name Don Jazzy, has ignited a debate. The head of Mavin Records stressed on social media that “a DNA test is more important than a naming ceremony” and advised men to prioritize DNA testing for their newborns as soon as possible.

This guidance follows a well publicized controversy involving Baltasar Engonga, a politician from Equatorial Guinea, who was purportedly discovered in possession of more than 400 sexual videos featuring different women. The extent of the scandal has been extensively documented, and it is shocking to learn that many of these women were married. High-profile ladies like the president’s sister, his brother’s wife, the attorney general’s wife, the head of presidential security’s wife, and even his pastor’s wife are among Engonga’s reported extramarital affairs.

Many people who recognize the value of DNA testing in establishing paternity have found resonance in Don Jazzy’s comments as the subject continues to make headlines.
