Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called for better motivation and incentives for the Black Stars ahead of future international assignments, insisting Ghana possesses the quality to compete with the world’s best when the team is properly supported.

Speaking on the state of the senior national team, Afenyo-Markin stressed the importance of creating the right environment for players to excel.

“They need to be properly motivated. The incentives that should be in place must be implemented,” he stated.

The lawmaker noted that Ghanaian teams often surpass expectations when there is unity, strong preparation and adequate support.

He referenced Ghana’s historic run at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, where the Black Stars reached the quarter-finals and came close to becoming the first African nation to qualify for the semi-finals.

Afenyo-Markin recalled the heartbreaking moment involving former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan, whose missed penalty against Uruguay denied Ghana a place in the last four of the tournament.
