The Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Nii Kpakpo Allotey, has pledged to offer employment opportunities to 30 members of Ghana’s national armwrestling team, the Golden Arms, following their impressive performance at the 15th African Armwrestling Championship.

The announcement was made during a reception hosted at the Mayor’s official residence at Ridge in Accra to honour the team’s achievements.

Team Ghana emerged champions at the continental competition after winning a remarkable 168 medals made up of 71 gold, 63 silver and 34 bronze medals. The Golden Arms also secured qualification for the next African Games scheduled to be held in Egypt.

Hon. Allotey described himself as “a man of action,” stating that he believes in fulfilling promises rather than making unnecessary speeches. According to him, when the Local Organizing Committee approached him for support ahead of the championship, he only tasked the athletes to return with medals.

President of the Ghana and Africa Armwrestling Federation, Charles Osei Asibey, thanked the Mayor for swiftly honouring his commitment and presented him with a plaque commemorating 10 years of the federation’s existence.

Athletes and officials expressed gratitude for the recognition and pledged to intensify preparations for future international competitions.
