Ghana will learn their opponents for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers when the Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducts the official draw on May 19, 2026.

The draw marks the beginning of the Black Stars’ campaign to return to the continental stage after a disappointing failure to qualify for the previous edition—ending a run of over two decades of consecutive appearances. Ghana also endured a difficult qualifying series, failing to record a single win.

CAF has announced that the qualifiers will be played between September 2026 and March 2027, setting up a competitive schedule ahead of the tournament. The 2027 AFCON finals are scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 17 across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The expanded tournament will feature 48 teams, divided into 12 groups of four, with the top two sides from each group advancing automatically to the finals.

Ghana is expected to be seeded for the draw, offering some advantage, but will still need a strong performance to secure qualification.

The upcoming draw is seen as a key moment in the Black Stars’ rebuilding process as they aim to reassert their place among Africa’s top football nations.
