    Mohamed Salah has urged Liverpool Football Club to give Jordan Henderson a fitting farewell when the former Anfield star returns to the club at the end of the month.

    Henderson, 35, was Salah’s captain during Liverpool’s trophy-laden spell under Jurgen Klopp, in which the team brought the Premier League and Champions League back to Merseyside.

    England midfielder Henderson left the club in 2023 for a surprise move to Saudi outfit Al-Ettifaq without a farewell after 12 years of service. 

    On May 24, he will return to Anfield for the first time with Brentford for the final game of the 2025-26 Premier League season. 

    It will be an emotional day on Merseysdie with Salah, 34, waving goodbye to the club, but the Egyptian has implored fans to pay their respects to his old captain on the day.

    ‘One more thing I’d really like to mention, and there is no better place to mention it than with you,’ he told Steven Gerrard on TNT Sports’ The Breakdown.

    ‘I think the last game of the season is against Brentford and people in the city know how much it meant to Hendo also, being here, captain of the club, for 12 years – more than me, more than Virg, more than Robbo, more than anyone at the club, he didn’t get the send off or farewell he deserved because he left immediately. 

    ‘I don’t know how the club is going to manage it, I have no plan, I also don’t know how the supporters will manage it but I really wish they do something special for him because he has been one of the best players at this club and without him – and I have been there in the dressing room – without him we would not have achieved what we achieved, so I really hope the fans will give a good send off. I really hope so.’

    Elsewhere, Salah says he is at peace with his decision to leave Liverpool and insists he ‘didn’t become old overnight’ so still has a lot to give.

    ‘I feel good, body wise I feel all right,’ said Salah, 33. ‘I didn’t become old overnight.

    ‘Last season I had this incredible season, I think I have a lot to give and I will see what is the best for me.

    ‘To go through the season, I feel like this is the right thing to do now and I have peace with it. The season was tough for all of us. I don’t want to say much.’

    Gerrard went to Salah’s house in January and gave him advice to leave the club on his own terms, which the forward has now done having struck an agreement to depart on a free transfer.

    Salah added: ‘People didn’t know you came to my house, we had a good conversation. You said your opinion and I really appreciate it. I am glad I am leaving now through the big door.

    ‘That is something you mentioned to me, just leave on your terms, I still remember those words. I am happy about it. Everything that is going on this season makes me think, “No it’s time to go”.’

    Salah limped off with a hamstring injury in the win over Crystal Palace last Saturday but is hopeful of being fit for at least one final appearance in a Liverpool shirt.

    He said: ‘Honestly physically I feel I have a lot to give. I played many games this season. I haven’t decided what I am going to do yet, I have a lot of good options. Physically I feel fine, I feel what I did over the years paid off, I feel good.

    ‘I will see what is best for me. For sure, the injury is fine. I will hopefully be back (before Brentford).’
