Ghanaian movie producer and entertainment pundit Ola Michael criticised the current government for its pride and ego, especially regarding the introduction of various taxes and levies over the years.

He believes the government should apologise to Ghanaians for implementing the controversial E-Levy.

“This government is too proud. They need to set aside their ego and apologize to Ghanaians for their actions,” he said.

During his show on Neat FM, Ola Michael recounted the events leading to the introduction of the E-Levy, which lacked clear explanations.

He recalled how the government promised that the E-Levy would solve financial issues but argued that it instead burdened the less privileged, despite claims of national benefits.

“Ghanaians easily forget due to the problems surrounding us. When we asked about the e-levy, there were no proper explanations. The leaders said it would solve our problems. They claimed it would help pay contractors, doctors, and other salaries. They even threatened that without the e-levy, free SHS would be at risk,” he recalled.

Despite public outcry and parliamentary opposition, the government proceeded with the E-Levy, causing further economic strain.

Ola Michael pointed out that the introduction of a COVID-19 levy and a new betting tax has only added to the financial burdens on Ghanaians.

“The politicians in Ghana know that Ghanaians will eventually get tired of complaining, so they pushed the E-Levy through for over a year. Now they realise it won’t solve the problems they thought it would, so they added a COVID levy, even though COVID-19 is no longer a major concern,” he added.
