Ghanaian middle-distance runner Abigail Abugire has etched her name into the country’s athletics history after setting a new national record in the women’s 1500 metres at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California.

Competing over the weekend at the prestigious meet, Abugire produced a remarkable performance to break the previous national mark, underscoring her steady rise on the international stage. Facing a competitive field of elite collegiate athletes, she demonstrated exceptional pace and composure to achieve the milestone.

The Bryan Clay Invitational, widely regarded as one of the premier collegiate track and field events in the United States, attracts top talents from across the NCAA, making Abugire’s achievement even more significant. Her record-breaking run not only highlights her personal progress but also signals a bright future for Ghanaian middle-distance running.

Abugire’s feat is expected to draw attention from athletics officials and fans alike, as she continues to build momentum ahead of upcoming competitions, with hopes of representing Ghana at major international championships in the near future.
