Daniel Wadieh clinched gold in the lightweight division at the 2026 African Mixed Martial Arts Championship after defeating Ken Saleh in the final held in Luanda.

The victory marked a historic moment for Ghana, which was participating in the continental championship for the first time. Wadieh, the country’s sole representative, delivered an impressive campaign, showcasing strength, skill, and composure throughout the tournament.

On his path to gold, Wadieh overcame Alex Junior Kamgang in the semi-finals after navigating earlier preliminary and quarter-final bouts. His performances drew attention from spectators and officials, establishing him as one of the standout athletes of the competition.

Speaking after his triumph, Wadieh expressed gratitude to supporters who had backed him with prayers and encouragement, while stressing the need to build a stronger future for mixed martial arts in Ghana through the development of tougher fighters.

President of the Ghana Mixed Martial Arts Federation, Collins Zoiku, hailed the achievement, noting that he had predicted a gold medal finish. He praised Wadieh’s preparation and said the fighter had lifted Ghana’s flag high on the continental stage.

Wadieh, who is based in the Netherlands, trains under coaches Frans Djimtche and Emirhan Bulduk. Zoiku added that the achievement highlights the need for greater government investment in MMA development in Ghana.
