Ghanaian attacker Kelvin Boateng found the net but could not prevent Austria Wien from suffering a 3-1 defeat to RB Salzburg in round 27 of the Austrian Bundesliga.
Salzburg made a strong start, with Karim Alajbegovic opening the scoring just three minutes into the game before Karim Konaté doubled the lead to give the visitors a comfortable advantage at halftime.
Boateng pulled one back for the Violets in the 61st minute, giving the home side hope of a comeback with a well-taken effort. However, Karim Onisiwo sealed the win for Salzburg with a third goal in the 77th minute.
The 26-year-old forward has now scored three goals in 15 appearances this season, continuing to play a key role in Austria Wien’s attack despite the result.
Boateng will now be hoping to build on his form and earn a starting place when Austria Wien face RB Leipzig in their upcoming second-leg clash on Wednesday, April 22.
