IF you have booked a summer holiday abroad from June onwards, there is a fresh major voice warning of possible flight cancellations.

The head of the International Energy Agency says Europe has around “six weeks of jet fuel left.”

Fatih Birol made the remarks to an Associated Press reporter in Paris.

They back up similar comments by Ryanair’s boss earlier this month.

Michael O’Leary told Sky News then that ticket prices may have to go up if disruption to jet fuel supplies continues due to the Middle East conflict.

Dutch airline KLM has confirmed yesterday that it will be cancelling 160 flights due to rising kerosene costs.

It said passengers affected by these changes will be rebooked onto the next available flight.

Some long-haul airlines have already introduced fuel surcharges to cover some of the additional costs.

It reported a £25m hit from higher fuel costs last month alone and said there was uncertainty over the outlook for fuel prices and customer demand in the near term, with bookings for the current quarter coming in two per cent lower than in the same period last year.

Shares were down as much as nine per cent on the update, which amounted to a profit warning as easyJet said it now expected pre-tax losses of up to £560m in the six months to the end of March.
