IBF#15 Ryota Toyoshima (23-3-1, 13 KOs), 153.5, made his initial defense of the WBO Asia Pacific super welter belt as he overwhelmed Filipino Carlo Bacaro (14-2, 8 KOs), 151.75, from the outset, hurt him with persistent body shots and finally halted him with a furious follow-up at 0:44 of the ninth round on Saturday in Tokyo, Japan. Toyoshima displayed his superior physical power but Bacaro gamely fought back hard to refuse to go down. But the aggressive champ accelerated his persistent attack to the fading Filipino, and his one-two combo almost floored the loser to prompt the referee’s halt.
