Kwesi Appiah denies links to Black Stars coaching job

Sudan head coach Kwesi Appiah has dismissed reports linking him with a return to the Black Stars job, insisting there is no truth to the speculation.

Media reports earlier this week suggested the former Ghana coach was expected in the country on March 31 for a meeting with John Dramani Mahama over the vacant national team coaching position. However, Appiah has firmly denied those claims, stating he is currently in Saudi Arabia monitoring Sudanese players.

The rumours emerged following the decision by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to part ways with Otto Addo, just two months before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Addo’s dismissal came after back-to-back friendly defeats against Austria and Germany, prompting the GFA to begin the search for a new head coach.

Appiah, who previously led Ghana at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, has been widely mentioned among potential candidates. He had two stints with the national team, but his most recent tenure ended after Ghana’s disappointing campaign at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
