Ghana football legend Dan Owusu has voiced concern over the dismissal of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, warning that the timing could disrupt the team’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Ghana Football Association parted ways with Addo following consecutive friendly defeats during the March international window. Ghana suffered a heavy 5-1 loss to Austria in Vienna before falling 2-1 to Germany in Stuttgart.

Owusu believes the decision has left the team facing a race against time, with less than three months to the World Cup scheduled to be hosted across United States, Canada and Mexico.

Speaking to Bryt FM, the former striker questioned the FA’s handling of the situation, suggesting the move may come too late to yield positive results. He noted that while calls for Addo’s dismissal had intensified earlier, the association initially maintained its support.

Owusu warned that the incoming coach will face significant pressure to quickly stabilise the team, describing the situation as uncertain.

During his tenure, Addo managed 22 matches, recording eight wins, five draws and nine defeats, with 35 goals scored and 28 conceded.
