The National Football League has stepped up efforts to expand flag football in Africa with a coaching clinic held at the University of Ghana Rugby Stadium in Accra.

The multi-day programme brought together coaches from 12 African countries under a partnership between the NFL and the International Federation of American Football, aimed at developing the sport and strengthening grassroots structures across the continent.

Speaking at the event, Afia Law, International Flag Football Development Manager, highlighted the initiative’s long-term focus on education and youth engagement. She noted that coaches are enhancing their skills and transferring knowledge to younger players in schools.

Lars Carlsen, Sport Manager at IFAF, commended the enthusiasm and commitment shown by participants, describing them as eager to learn and improve.

The clinic also drew key officials, including Lawrence Ojaideh, who emphasized its importance for countries like Nigeria preparing for upcoming international competitions.

The programme combined practical and theoretical sessions, focusing on coaching techniques, game awareness, and strategies to boost participation. It forms part of the NFL’s broader strategy to grow flag football globally and build a sustainable talent pipeline across emerging markets, particularly in Africa.
