Accra Hearts of Oak have issued a strong statement denying allegations linking their goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, to a theft incident involving the Black Stars during their recent trip to Vienna.

Reports emerged following the Black Stars’ international friendly against Austria last Friday, where an incident of theft was recorded at the team’s camp. According to sources, one of the Ghanaian players had personal items stolen from his room during the stay in the Austrian capital.

In the aftermath of the incident, some local bloggers circulated images of Benjamin Asare on social media, falsely accusing the Hearts of Oak shot-stopper of being responsible for the missing items.

Reacting to the situation, Hearts of Oak released an official statement on March 28, 2026, categorically dismissing the allegations as “false, misleading and defamatory.”

The club confirmed that it had engaged the Ghana Football Association, with both parties agreeing that there is no truth to the accusations.

The club further disclosed that it has reported the individuals behind those fabrications , including the alleged content creator, to the appropriate law enforcement and regulatory bodies for investigation and possible sanctions.

Hearts of Oak also reassured supporters that Asare remains focused and unaffected despite the controversy, urging the public to disregard the misinformation while reiterating their commitment to protecting the reputation and integrity of their players.

The 33-year-old goalie is most likely to start Ghana’s next friendly against four-time world champions Germany on Monday, March 30, at the MHP Arena
