Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has defended goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi following Ghana’s difficult outing in their recent international friendly defeat to Austria in Vienna.
Speaking after the match, Addo described the result as unfortunate and stressed the importance of using such fixtures to assess players and build competition within the squad. He insisted that Ati-Zigi was not to blame for the 5-1 scoreline, noting that the opening goals left the goalkeeper with little chance of making a save.
“It was an unlucky evening for him. He didn’t deserve to concede five goals,” Addo said, while urging a collective approach to addressing the team’s shortcomings.
The coach emphasized that the focus should not be placed on individuals but on the team as a whole, highlighting the need for improvement in key areas. He added that the technical team would carefully analyze the performance and work towards finding better solutions.
Ghana will look to bounce back strongly as preparations continue for upcoming international assignments against Germany, Mexico and Wales.
