The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has outlined an ambitious reform agenda centered on transparency, accountability and stakeholder engagement to restore public confidence in Ghana’s sports sector.

In an interview with Graphic Online, the Minister stressed that rebuilding trust would depend heavily on openness, particularly in financial management. He revealed that his approach aligns with the vision of John Dramani Mahama, who has prioritized transparency across government operations.

Mr Adams noted that clear communication on expenditure, especially involving national teams, would help address public concerns and encourage greater support from citizens and corporate partners.

He highlighted the Black Stars’ qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as a key achievement, following their failure to reach the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations. According to him, the success was driven by strategic planning and strong backing from both government and fans.

Beyond results, the Minister emphasized the broader role of sports in promoting discipline and national unity. He also disclosed reforms to the team’s management structure, including revised incentive systems focused on qualification targets.

Looking ahead, he reaffirmed the importance of upcoming friendlies against Germany and Austria as part of preparations for the global tournament.
