Alban Bagbin, the Speaker of Parliament, has urged all parties involved to stop causing needless fear and let Parliament operate as it should. He asked the public to refrain from inciting fear in a statement released on November 6, 2024, stressing that, despite certain critiques, Parliament is not in disarray.

“Stop inciting fear and pushing panic buttons. “Let the system function,” Bagbin stated at a press conference in Parliament. Bagbin told Ghanaians that he could efficiently head the third arm of government without creating chaos by drawing on his vast expertise, which includes more than 40 years in public service and more than 30 years in parliamentary service.

His words followed those of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, who voiced concerns over the Parliament’s lack of activity during a Supreme Court session on October 30, 2024. “We live in a nation where the Parliament is not in session, and this is a constitutional crisis. What is going on?” she said. Bagbin, who has always sought to make Parliament stronger, reaffirmed his pledge to leave the organization in the same strong state that he found it in when he took over as head.
