Deputy Finance Minister and Chairman of the World Cup Fundraising Committee, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has confirmed that any surplus generated from the Black Stars’ World Cup fundraising campaign will be channeled into the Ghana Sports Fund to support long-term sports development.

Speaking to Citi Sports at the launch event held at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City on Friday, Ampem emphasized that all funds raised will be transparently managed through dedicated Bank of Ghana accounts. He noted that any excess funds would be reinvested into sports development initiatives across the country.

The event attracted high-profile attendees, including President John Dramani Mahama, Sports Minister Kofi Adams, and Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku. Former captain Stephen Appiah and several ex-internationals and musicians were also present.

The committee targets $30 million to support Ghana’s World Cup campaign, including preparations and international friendlies. Notably, $10 million was secured on launch day.

Ghana will face England, Croatia, and Panama in Group L, opening their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto.
