The Vice President and Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has underscored the importance of digital skills for the young people of Ghana.

Reiterating his commitment to making Ghana a digital hub in Africa, with many young Ghanaians at the centre stage, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that technology is a global trend in the 4th Industrial Revolution. He noted that acquiring digital skills is a major enabler for the youth, providing opportunities for jobs.

“Where the world is going, we have to give our young people digital skills so they can take advantage of trends in the world. We cannot leave them behind,” Dr. Bawumia said in Ahwia during his engagement with stakeholders of the Kwabre East Constituency in the Ashanti Region.

“Today, if a child is trained in digital skills, that child can sit anywhere in Ghana and work for a company anywhere in the world and make good money. It is already happening, and we need to expand it for more young Ghanaians to benefit.”

Dr. Bawumia explained that having digital skills does not limit one’s job potential to only Ghana, as it offers global opportunities without the need to travel outside the country.

“You can be here in Boakra and work for a company in America, Canada, the UK, and receive your money.

“That is why I want to train about 1 million Ghanaian youth in digital skills, with every district in Ghana benefiting. I aim to train about 5,000 youth in every district on digital skills to create more job opportunities for them.”

“The good thing about digital skills training is that it does not require high education. Even people who have, unfortunately, dropped out of school for some reason can also be trained in digital skills and turn out to be great.”

“This is where the world is going, and we cannot leave our young people out.”
