Ghanaian rapper Medikal says his involvement in the National Youth Authority’s anti-drug initiative, “Red Means Stop,” will not come with any financial reward, stressing that his decision to lend his name to the campaign is purely voluntary.

The artiste revealed this while speaking during the public unveiling of his appointment on March 12, 2026. According to him, the choice to support the campaign came after careful reflection about how he could channel his influence into something that would have a long-term social benefit.

He explained that he wanted his brand to be associated with a cause that could genuinely shape the future, particularly in the fight against substance abuse among young people.

“I was like, what can I do with my brand that will be so impactful that in the next 20 to 30 years I can sit down and be like, this is the reason there’s a reduction in the use of drugs and substances? I want people to know, especially Ghanaians, that I’m not being paid for this. This is out of my own will to do something to help society and try to be impactful,” Medikal disclosed.

The announcement confirming his role was made the same day at the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment. The ceremony was led by the sector minister, George Opare Addo, and attended by officials from the National Youth Authority, including its Chief Executive Officer, Osman Ayariga.

The “Red Means Stop” campaign is part of a wider push by authorities to confront the growing misuse of synthetic drugs among the youth. In recent months, the substance commonly referred to as “Red” has drawn concern from policymakers and health advocates who warn about its increasing presence in youth communities.

Through the initiative, the National Youth Authority intends to roll out public education drives, advocacy programmes and community engagement activities designed to warn young people about the dangers of drug abuse and promote healthier life choices.
