A 10-man Hearts of Oak side was held to a goalless encounter by Basake Holy Stars at the University of Ghana Stadium in Legon yesterday.

With the top contenders all losing, it was a missed opportunity by the Phobians to narrow the gap on Medeama SC and Gold Stars. Hearts lost defender Kelvin Osei Asibey in the 65th minute for holding Holy Stars’ striker who was advancing on goal.

However, Medeama SC suffered a major setback in their title pursuit after losing 2-1 to Hohoe United in a dramatic clash. It was Medeama’s first home loss of the season, ending their impressive unbeaten run on home soil.

After a tightly contested first half, Coach Ibrahim Tanko’s side broke the deadlock shortly after the restart when Kelvin Obeng found the back of the net just two minutes into the second half.

However, Medeama’s lead proved short-lived as the visitors responded swiftly. Hohoe United drew level in the 53rd minute when Fatawu Sulemana inadvertently diverted the ball into his own net, giving the visitors a crucial equaliser.

The hosts were then handed a golden opportunity to reclaim the lead after being awarded a penalty moments later, but in a costly turn of events, goalkeeper Felix Kyei, who stepped up to take the spot kick, missed.

Hohoe United seized the momentum and later capitalised on a moment of indecision from Kyei, who had strayed off his line, allowing the visitors to calmly slot the ball into an empty net to complete a remarkable comeback.

Karela United also dented Asante Kotoko, dealing a big blow at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale with a 1-0 victory. The decisive moment came in the 41st minute when Malik Abubakar scored the only goal of the match. Kotoko’s task became more difficult after Henry Ansu was shown a red card, leaving the visitors a man down as Karela continued to press for more goals.

In other matches, Vision FC produced a dominant second-half performance to defeat Berekum Chelsea 3–1 at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Park, stretching their impressive unbeaten run to six matches in the Premier League. After a lively start, the visitors threatened first when Jonah Attuquaye forced an early save from Vision’s goalkeeper, Godwin Ametefe. The hosts responded swiftly through Abdul Naseru Sumaila, but both sides were unable to find the breakthrough before halftime.

In the 65th minute, Rahman Yaya pushed forward in search of a second goal, but his pass towards Felix Mortu went to waste as the striker failed to control the ball.
