Players of the Ghana women’s national football team have reportedly expressed a desire to return home amid growing concerns over the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Sources close to the team indicate that the players have communicated their concerns to the technical team as well as officials at the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. Their primary worry is safety, with many believing that returning to Ghana would be the safest course of action under the current circumstances.
The Black Queens are currently in the United Arab Emirates to participate in the Pink Ladies Cup. The delegation consists of 25 players and 16 officials.
The concerns raised by the players come at a time when several governments are taking precautionary measures for their citizens in the region. Reports indicate that authorities in Hong Kong and Russia have already evacuated their nationals.
Officials are expected to assess the situation and determine the next course of action regarding the team’s participation in the tournament.
