The Ghana Police Service volleyball teams have commenced their campaign in the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) Zone III Tournament at the Borteyman Sports Complex.

The tournament, hosted by Kalibi Volleyball Club, has attracted top clubs from across the sub-region, setting the stage for keen competition.

The Police men’s team made a strong start, defeating Dynamic Volleyball Team 3-0 in the second match of the day. Their commanding performance highlighted the team’s preparedness, coordination and determination to compete at the highest level.

In another fixture, El-Wak United lost 3-1 to Finance VC.

The opening ceremony followed the matches and was attended by Mr Kofi Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation; Commissioner of Police, Seidu Iddi, Director-General of Research and Planning; and Mr Ali Yaro, President of CAVB Zone III. The others were Mr George Tetteh, President of the Greater Accra Volleyball Association; and Dr Austin Luguterah, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and Vice President of the Ghana Volleyball Association. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ms Bernice Timbilla, Director of Sports of the Ghana Police Service, was also present.

Prior to the matches, ASP Timbilla urged both the male and female teams to uphold discipline, teamwork and resilience throughout the competition.

Later in the evening, the Police ladies team faced hosts Kalibi Volleyball Club but lost 3-0 despite a spirited performance. The team remains focused on bouncing back in their next fixture.

The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sports excellence and fostering unity through disciplined participation in national and international competitions. –GNA
