The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has said he would not be surprised if former Black Stars captain Andre Dede Ayew rejoins the team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He indicated that Ayew has been gradually regaining his form in recent times and, if he continues to improve, he could be recalled to the national team.
The minister noted that as long as Ayew is actively playing football, he will remain an option when it comes to squad selection for the tournament.

Speaking in an interview with Adom FM, Kofi Adams emphasised that a call-up for Dede Ayew will ultimately be determined by the Black Stars’ technical team based on their criteria.
When asked if Ayew would join the team for the tournament, the minister responded: “Well, I think he is picking up. Once he has not retired from football, I will not be surprised to see him in the team. I won’t be surprised, but that is the coach’s responsibility.”
The Member of Parliament for Buem constituency added that he is optimistic about the Black Stars excelling at the World Cup, saying: “With the tournament, I am convinced we will do well and possibly do better.”
