The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has put in place various structures to deal with poor officiating in the Ghana Premier League, according to Referees Manager, Alex Kotey.

Speaking on the GFA Podcast, Kotey refuted allegations that match officials are biased towards some clubs.

He admitted that referees make mistakes, but argued that it is only because they are human and can have bad days.

“It is very difficult to agree or to generalise that the referees are biased. I would rather say that they did not have a good day. Just like any club will have a bad day, it is the same with our referees. They are human,” Alex Kotey said.

The GFA Referees Manager further revealed that there are measures in place to remove all underperforming referees.

“In our own small way, from the referees department, we have put in place a lot of structures, and we are trying to pluck some of them out, but it has been quite slow because we need to be tactful.

“This year alone, we have put some of the referees on ice due to errors in decision-making. So, we put you on ice, put you through some training, and then if you are okay, the referees committee reinstates you,” Alex Kotey said.

According to him, the FA will continue to build the capacity of match officials in the country to improve their performance.
