A political aide and spokesperson to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kofi Tonto, has criticised President John Dramani Mahama over his 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA), describing it as “full of propaganda and lies.”

Reacting to the just-ended State of the Nation Address, Kofi Tonto said Ghanaians are not experiencing any economic reset as suggested by the President but are instead grappling with severe hardship.

“Ghanaians are not feeling any reset; what they are experiencing is hardship and that is the reality,” he stated.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM, the Bawumia aide argued that many households and businesses are struggling to afford electricity. According to him, the current economic situation contradicts the government’s claims of improvement.

Tonto further accused the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of failing to fulfill key promises made while in opposition.

He claimed that President Mahama and the NDC had pledged to reduce electricity tariffs and improve cocoa prices for farmers but have instead presided over worsening conditions.

He stressed that the rising cost of living and increasing utility challenges are putting significant pressure on ordinary Ghanaians and business owners across the country.
