Black Queens are in UAE for the Pink Ladies’ Cup Black Queens are in UAE for the Pink Ladies’ Cup

The Media Officer of the Black Queens, Matilda Dimedo, has stated that the team is expected to continue their participation in the Pink Ladies’ Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), despite the ongoing airstrikes between Iran and Israel-USA in the Middle East.

Reports had earlier suggested that the Black Queens players and their officials were stranded in the UAE after the country closed its airspace and cancelled all flights due to the conflict.

It was indicated that the players were confined to their rooms and instructed by team officials to pack their luggage in preparation for a possible evacuation.

This development prompted Ghana’s diplomatic mission to visit the squad, assuring them of government support.

In an interview with Joy Sports, Dimedo noted that the team is hoping to resume training soon to continue their participation in the tournament.

The officials are optimistic about honoring their next game in the competition against Russia on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, after thrashing Hong Kong 4-0 in their opening match.

It was further reported that tensions in their area have calmed significantly, with businesses operating normally, hence their intention to continue in the tournament.

However, Dimedo added, “The team’s stay remains subject to the status of regional airspace. The departure strategy is twofold: should the airspace be cleared before their final game against Tanzania, the team may opt for an early exit. Alternatively, they will complete the tournament and wait for a safe window to fly out.”

The tournament is serving as preparation for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to take place in Morocco.
