The Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has pledged to push for more resources to be invested in amateur boxing .

He stated that with the establishment of the sports fund, he will liaise with stakeholders to ensure that some funds are allocated to promote amateur boxing and support athletes.

The NSA boss emphasised that his ambition is to see the country groom better boxers to compete in the Olympic Games and win laurels for the nation.

“My prayer is that we will be able to support grassroots boxing more, because once we are able to do that at the foundation level, the rest becomes not easy but easier. It’s never easy. So for me, I will definitely be pushing. Now that we have a sports fund, amateur boxing should be given more attention, more recognition, and more support. And I believe everybody here at this table will also push in their own way.

“The National Sports Authority, Ministry of Sports and Recreation, and the Ghana Olympic Committee need to push. That is what we are going to do to make sure that in the next major competition Ghana participates in, people see the impact before the next Olympic Games,” he said while speaking at the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) logo unveiling ceremony on February 26, 2026.

Speaking on the new GBF logo, Ampofo Ankrah indicated that he was impressed with the design and its uniqueness in representing the boxing federation and gaining more recognition.

“I’ll say ayekoo to everybody, and I love the logo. Very simple, very distinct. You can wear it anywhere, even on t-shirts. It’s very fashionable. This is how you see Real Madrid, Liverpool, Barcelona, Kotoko, Hearts. It’s very distinct. So I believe with this logo, you will even be able to attract people who don’t necessarily like boxing and bring them in to learn more about the sport. So I’ll keep it here,” he added.
