American politician of Ghanaian descent, Gabriel Felix Kofi Amo, has welcomed the Black Stars’ decision to camp in Rhode Island ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

The four-time African champions have selected the Bryant University in Rhode Island as their base for preparations ahead of their games in Canada and America.

Congressman Amo, who was born and raised in Rhode Island, shared his excitement and how proud he is to hosts the African giants this summer.

“Very excited that team Ghana will be based in Rhode Island at Bryant University for the 2026 FIFA World Cup! As a proud Ghanaian-American and lifelong RI’er, grateful to “pitch” in to secure this win for our state. Let’s go Rhody!” he posted on X.

The Pawtucket-born politician entered the US House of Representatives in 2023 as the representative for Rhode Island’s 1st congressional district.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, 1966 champions England and 2018 finalist Croatia.

The West Africans will face Panama in their opening game in Toronto on June 17, before facing England in Boston on June 23. The team will complete the group phase with a game against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
