President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has recovered more than GH¢600 million in stolen public funds.

Delivering his 2026 State of the Nation Address on Friday, February 27, 2026, the president described the recoveries as a strong indication of the administration’s renewed commitment to accountability and protection of public resources.

He noted that beyond these substantial recoveries, hundreds of additional cases remain under active investigation, with several already progressing to prosecution.

“As of December 2025, EOCO has recovered more than GH₵600 million. The office has investigated 462 cases, with 15 currently under prosecution. It has dismantled transnational carjacking syndicates and recovered 29 luxury vehicles that were stolen,” President Mahama stated.

The president reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption, emphasising that it applies to all, regardless of status or political affiliation.

“The Attorney General’s Office will continue with both criminal prosecution and non-conviction-based asset recovery mechanisms to ensure that stolen public resources are returned for national development,” he said.

According to the president, EOCO’s investigations cover a wide range of alleged offences including procurement breaches, financial misappropriation, money laundering, tax evasion, cybercrime, and cross-border organised crime.

Some cases involve former ministry officials alleged to have authorised irregular payments, senior officers of state-owned enterprises linked to procurement irregularities, and private business persons suspected of benefiting from inflated contracts.
