Former Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Osei Assibey Antwi, has engaged Ralph Poku-Adusei, the Member of Parliament for Bekwai, as his new defence counsel in the ongoing case in which he faces charges of causing financial loss to the state.

A notice of change of solicitor was filed at the High Court on February 23, 2026, by Trent Legal Amansie Chambers.

It was signed by Ralph Poku-Adusei, as Head of Chambers, and served on the previous lawyers, the Attorney-General and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

Poku-Adusei, known for handling several prominent criminal matters, has previously represented clients in cases such as the widow and family of the late Bennet Agyekum Adomah (owner of Kikibees Restaurant and Lounge), Republic v. Bishop Daniel Obinim and the extradition proceedings in Republic v. Blessing Adeleke, among others.

His extensive experience in criminal prosecution and defence, as well as his ability to navigate both roles effectively, is expected to play a key part in Osei Assibey Antwi’s defence.

On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, Ralph Poku-Adusei appeared in court with six other lawyers from his chambers to represent the accused.

The prosecution was set to present an amended charge sheet, increasing the counts from 14 to 19.

However, the trial judge, Justice Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie, was absent due to indisposition.

Speaking to the media afterwards, Poku-Adusei said he had reviewed both the old and new charge sheets.

He pointed out that the alleged financial loss had been reduced from GH¢631,629,744.00 to GH¢530,905,945.20.

He added that proving the elements of the offences would pose a significant challenge to the prosecution, based on the brief facts accompanying the new charges.

Nonetheless, he expressed confidence that his team was fully prepared to defend their client vigorously and secure a full acquittal and discharge.

The case, after discussions with the prosecution and court officials at Criminal Court 5, was adjourned to Monday, March 9, 2026.
