Shouting match erupts at Trump’s State of the Union as Democrats HECKLE and walk out as president announces huge tax cut: Live updates

President Donald Trump is addressing the nation during his State of the Union speech from the US Capitol building tonight.

Immediately after entering the House Chamber on Tuesday night, Democratic congressman Al Green held up a sign as the president walked by saying: ‘Black People aren’t apes.’ He was shortly escorted out of the room after Majority Leader Steven Scalise ripped the sign from his hands.

Trump gave the US Men’s Hockey Team a heroes’ welcome to the chamber after the squad defeated Canada in a 2-1 win at the Winter Olympics on Sunday.

Trump addressed his policies to supercharge the US economy as well as the rewiring of global trade and tax cuts. At a traditional, off-the-record lunch with network news anchors today, he told reporters that he would ‘advocate for a form of tax cuts, corporate and mostly personal.’

At least 70 Democrats will be boycotting Trump’s State of the Union by attending counterprogramming or protesting at the National Mall. Others have unleashed a sabotage plot to stage walk-outs during Trump’s speech as he prepares to reset his agenda.

Earlier, the president warned that his speech would be lengthy as he argued that the country is ‘strong, prosperous and respected’ as it enters its 250th year. ‘It’s going to be a long speech because we have so much to talk about,’ the Trump said on Monday.

Follow along for the latest updates.

Al Green booted from chamber for protest for second year

Al Green was escorted out of the House chamber at the start of Donald Trump’s remarks for a second year in a row.

The Texas Democrat held up a ‘Black People are not apes’ sign in reference to a social media video the president reposted that showed the Obama’s faces on the bodies of apes.

Last year he repeatedly yelled at Trump, ‘You have no mandate,’ in protest of his plans to cut Medicaid. He was kicked out of the chamber for refusing to stop his protest.

Both years, his objection to Trump was met with chants of ‘U.S.A’ by Republicans in the chamber.
