The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Koduah, has declared his intention to seek re-election, describing himself as the “most suffered” General Secretary in the party’s history following the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Speaking on OTEC FM’s afternoon political talk show, Dwabrem, on Monday, February 23, 2026, Koduah said the period leading to and after the 2024 elections had been one of the most challenging moments of his political career. The programme was hosted by Prince Nii Ardey, popularly known as Dr Cash.

“I’m the most suffered NPP General Secretary,” Mr. Koduah stated. “Our National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, was unfortunately unwell, and I was deprived of his enormous service. That situation left me alone to take all the blames from our 2024 electoral defeat.”

He explained that the absence of the party’s National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, due to ill health placed an enormous responsibility on him during a critical period for the party. According to him, this made him the central figure for criticism after the party lost power.

Despite the setback, Koduah said the experience has strengthened him and better prepared him for future political battles. “I’ve learnt a lot from our 2024 election defeat. I now have more experience and a deeper understanding of what we must do differently,” he noted.

He stressed that the NPP would need consistency in leadership as it prepares for the 2028 general elections. “The party will remain consistent with its leadership as we also maintain Dr Bawumia as our flagbearer,” he said, expressing confidence in the party’s direction.

According to him, the NPP requires an experienced hand to reorganise and reposition the party for victory in 2028. “I am guided by history and experience because the NPP needs an experienced hand for election 2028,” he emphasized.

Koduah’s remarks come at a time when internal discussions within the NPP are intensifying ahead of the party’s internal elections, with key national executives expected to defend or contest their positions.
