Inspector-General of Police COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu has announced that specialised Robocop units will be deployed to help tackle hooliganism and strengthen security at football matches across the country.

The assurance was given during a meeting with Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku and his delegation at the Police Headquarters in Accra, where both institutions discussed measures to improve matchday safety.

COP Yohunu said the introduction of enhanced security technology and the use of Robocop units would significantly improve crowd control, deter violent conduct and ensure a safer environment for players, officials and supporters.

He noted that football matches require strategic policing due to large attendances and heightened emotions, adding that the Police Service is committed to maintaining order while allowing fans to enjoy the game peacefully.

The IGP pledged closer collaboration with the GFA to ensure that competitions are conducted in a secure and professionally managed atmosphere nationwide.

The move forms part of broader efforts by the Police Service and the FA to clamp down on disorderly behaviour and restore confidence in stadium safety.
