Acclaimed Ghanaian gospel musician Celestine Donkor has made a bold statement that has sparked reactions online.

In an interview on TV3 on February 19, 2026, the renowned singer was asked what advice she would give her 20-year-old self and the youth.

In response, Celestine Donkor advised that the younger generation should believe in themselves first, before placing faith in God.

Explaining her reasoning, she noted that if a person does not have confidence in themselves, even God’s plans for them may not materialise.

“Believe in yourself first. Believe in God second. If you don’t believe in yourself first, and God believes in you, it still won’t work. God believes in you; if He didn’t, He wouldn’t have sent His Son to die for us,” she said.

The singer further emphasised her message to the youth, encouraging them to have faith in themselves and aim for greater heights.

“There’s nothing you cannot achieve. Every other voice will be silenced. Every challenge will be overcome. But if God believes in you and you believe in God, yet you don’t believe in yourself, it won’t work. You matter in the conversation about your destiny,” she added.
