Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has cautioned that any individual who shares, rebroadcasts, or redistributes the illegal material linked to Russian national Vyacheslav Trahov could be prosecuted under Ghanaian laws.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, via a video shared on X, Sam George stressed that the government is treating the matter as a serious cybercrime case.

According to him, Ghana’s laws on digital privacy and cybersecurity make it a criminal offense to record or distribute intimate content without consent.

“Any individual, including Ghanaian citizens who have shared, re-broadcast or re-distributed the illegal material are also liable for prosecution under the laws of Ghana,” Sam George cautioned.

Meanwhile, the Russian national is to be prosecuted in absentia over the leaked intimate footage scandal involving Ghanaian women, as the Ghanaian government has initiated legal processes to pursue the case even if extradition from Russia proves impossible.

Sam George revealed that the Cyber Security Authority, in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service and the Attorney-General’s Department, is preparing a docket specifically for prosecution in absentia in Ghanaian courts.

He explained that due to the absence of an extradition treaty between Ghana and Russia and provisions in the Russian Constitution that prevent the extradition of its citizens, the government is instead working with INTERPOL to secure an international arrest warrant.

This measure, according to George, would confine the suspect to Russia, as “as soon as he steps outside of Russia into any other country, he will be picked up to serve the sentence.”

The ministers emphasised the government’s firm commitment to justice and victim protection.

George noted that the suspect allegedly recorded private encounters without consent, monetised the content online through cryptocurrency payments, and that authorities have formally briefed the Russian Ambassador, who confirmed the alleged acts constitute a criminal offense under Russian law.

Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, reiterated government’s resolve to see the matter through to its logical conclusion.

“The assurance we are giving all Ghanaians is that nobody will violate any Ghanaian citizen and go scot-free. We are going to pursue it. And that is the charge His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has given us,” she said.
