The management of Ghanaian songstress Efya, born Jane Fara Fauzzier Afia Awindor, has dismissed viral reports claiming the award-winning artiste secretly tied the knot with Nigerian pop musician Tomi Thomas over the weekend.

Speculation about a supposed private wedding ceremony gained traction on social media after videos surfaced showing Efya and Tomi Thomas celebrating at what many assumed to be a marriage event.

However, speaking exclusively to Adom FM on February 17, 2026, Efya’s representatives firmly refuted the claims, stating that no marriage has taken place.

According to her management team, the videos circulating online were recorded during an after-party that followed a traditional knocking ceremony — a customary pre-marital rite observed in many Ghanaian cultures.

They emphasised that a knocking ceremony does not automatically translate into a completed marriage, explaining that it is only one step in a broader traditional marital process.

“The whole thing was not supposed to come out. I am wondering why someone would share the videos,” management stated.

They further questioned the rush to label the event as a wedding.

“Do you know how many people have knocking ceremonies and nothing happens afterwards? So why would people call it a marriage? The family has not concluded the process, and this could even create unnecessary pressure,” the statement added.

The clarification comes amid widespread online excitement and congratulatory messages that followed the initial reports. The management team maintained that while the ceremony was part of customary family engagements, it should not be misconstrued as a finalized marriage.

They also expressed concern that the premature circulation of the videos and the resulting speculation could place undue pressure on the families involved.

As of now, neither Efya nor Tomi Thomas has publicly commented on the matter beyond the statement issued through management.

The development underscores the importance of cultural context in reporting on traditional rites, particularly when private family ceremonies are shared without consent.
