President of the Ghana Football Association, Kurt Okraku, has expressed strong confidence in Thomas Partey’s commitment to the Black Stars as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup to be hosted in Canada, the USA and Mexico.

Speaking in an interview on Asaase Radio on Tuesday morning, Okraku revealed that the GFA has maintained constant communication with the Villarreal CF midfielder and remains assured of his mental readiness and determination to represent Ghana despite the off-field challenges he is currently facing.

“As deputy captain of the national team, Thomas remains a very important member of the squad. His leadership will be crucial to our success,” Okraku stated. “Thomas Partey knows our position. We stand shoulder to shoulder with him during these challenging times. I’m very positive that despite all the happenings, Partey will show up.”

Partey has recently been involved in legal proceedings in Westminster relating to domestic abuse charges, a situation that has reportedly affected his form at club level. His coach at Villarreal has also publicly raised concerns about the player’s mental state.

Ghana has secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and will be aiming to have its strongest squad available as the nation seeks a successful campaign on the global stage.
