The Ghana Football Association has confirmed that the Black Stars will play Mexico in an international friendly as part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The fixture becomes the third confirmed warm-up match for Otto Addo’s side ahead of the tournament in June. Ghana had already scheduled friendlies against Austria and Germany in March, with the Mexico clash adding another important test as the team fine-tunes its readiness for the global showpiece in North America.
Mexico, one of the three host nations, will use the match to prepare for their opening World Cup game against South Africa on June 11. The encounter offers the North Americans valuable experience against African opposition before that clash.
For Ghana, the friendly presents a useful dress rehearsal ahead of their Group L opener against Panama, who share a similar regional football profile to Mexico. The Black Stars face Panama on June 17 in Toronto before taking on England and Croatia in their remaining group matches.
The match is scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2026, at a yet-to-be-announced venue in Mexico. Both teams are expected to have largely settled squads by that time as they make final tactical adjustments ahead of the tournament.
