Ghanaian musician Yaw Dhope has opened up about missing out on a record deal he was promised after winning a competition.

Speaking in an interview on MX24 on February 16, 2026, Yaw Dhope disclosed that although he emerged victorious and received some prizes, the expected record deal never materialized.

“The competition was nice and I won. Because they said it on live television that I was going to get a record deal so after the competition, I realized people were asking about it. They were actually expecting a lot from me, but I chased the deal and there was nothing there,” he said.

Yaw Dhope admitted that he did not publicly address the issue at the time, choosing instead to stay focused and continue working.

“I got the car and the money, but not the deal. I didn’t explain to anyone that there was no deal, so I had to keep my head up and continue pushing,” he noted.

He added, “I was looking forward to the record deal because I wanted to put my music out there. Since it didn’t come, I decided to go back to the studio and do everything myself.”
