The Ho West District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Francis Dusey, has urged students to compete fairly and uphold high standards as the fourth West Zone Inter-School Sports Festival got underway at Tsito.

Addressing the gathering as the special guest of honour, Mr. Dusey encouraged participants to demonstrate teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the event. He praised the festival’s organisers for maintaining the annual tradition, noting that it serves as an important platform for discovering talent and fostering unity among the district’s second-cycle schools.

Schools taking part in this year’s festival include Awudome SHS (AWUSCO), Kpedze SHS (KPESCO), Avatime SHS (AVASEC), Akome Senior High Technical (AKOSTECH), Tsito Senior High Technical (TSISTEC), Abutia Senior Technical (ABUSTEC), and Dzolo SHS (DZOLOSEC). Despite funding difficulties, all school heads were present to support the festival.

The opening ceremony was enhanced by performances from the cadet corps of Tsito SHS and Kpedze SHS, adding both vibrancy and structure to the proceedings. Competitions will span football, basketball, handball, volleyball, netball, badminton, table tennis, athletics, and cross-country, with each school ready to showcase their best performers.

Mr. Dusey commended coaches, sports masters, and technical teams for their dedication and preparation, emphasizing that their mentorship contributes to building character and teamwork among students. He urged athletes to respect rules, honour their opponents, and represent their schools with pride.

He also encouraged students to view the festival as more than just a competition, highlighting its role in teaching resilience, leadership, and unity. The DCE concluded by wishing all participants a safe, exciting, and successful festival, confident that it would further strengthen sports development in the Ho West District.
