Franklin Cudjoe, Founding President of IMANI Africa, has reacted to INTERPOL’s decision to delete a Red Notice issued at Ghana’s request for former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta.

In a post shared on his X page on February 14, 2026, Cudjoe stated that whether Ken Ofori-Atta is removed from the Red Notice or not, he still remains a fugitive.

He also described the former Finance Minister as a “brave coward” who, in his view, has deployed outright lies to escape accountability.

“Whether Ken gets off a red list or black list, he remains a fugitive, a brave coward in fact, who deployed all kinds of methods, including outright lies to escape accountability,” Cudjoe noted.

Cudjoe further questioned the circumstances surrounding the alleged offences and the claims of political persecution cited in discussions about INTERPOL’s decision.

He argued that even if the Attorney-General’s public comments and partisan criticisms of the OSP influenced perceptions, the core issue remains how the alleged crimes were committed.

“Let’s even agree that the Attorney-General’s amateurish public outbursts of insufficiency of dockets and the orchestrated partisan public opprobrium against the OSP on the matter played a role in the so-called political persecution being cited by Interpol, how did Ken commit those heinous crimes he’s charged with? Wasn’t it through political office which granted him access to allegedly mastermind the pillaging of our resources and actually ultimately collapsed our economy after the deadly broad daylight pickpocketing of investment of the dying, the sick and aged through the painful haircuts?” he questioned.

The IMANI Africa founder also referred to reports that the former Finance Minister is currently in detention by ICE, stating that while he may choose to remain there, he should assist in efforts to retrieve any alleged misappropriated funds.

“He can remain in ICE detention forever, but he should simply lead us to recover the alleged loot,” Cudjoe wrote.

    Background

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) recently confirmed that INTERPOL’s Commission for the Control of Files (CCF) directed the deletion of the Red Notice. The Commission cited procedural and contextual considerations in reaching its decision.

According to the OSP, the Commission determined that the notice should be removed under INTERPOL’s rules governing political neutrality and the processing of notices.

It referenced contextual factors at the time the Red Notice was issued, including what it described as “polarised political statements from members of current and former administrations” relating to the conduct of investigations.

The Commission also considered public controversy surrounding prosecutorial and extradition processes. This included acknowledgements by senior officials at Ghana’s Ministry of Justice that extradition could not be pursued at the time because the case was still at an early procedural stage.

The Special Prosecutor has previously indicated that investigations relate to alleged procurement and financial irregularities during Ken Ofori-Atta’s tenure as Finance Minister from 2017 to 2024.

That period was marked by significant borrowing programmes, including domestic bond issuances, Eurobond transactions, and the controversial Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP).

Whether Ken gets off a red list or black list, he remains a fugitive, a brave coward in fact, who deployed all kinds of methods, including outright lies to escape accountability.
