Former Aduana Stars midfielder, Kofi Abanga, has narrated that he declined Asante Kotoko after the bankroller of Aduana, Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, agreed a deal with Hearts of Oak.

According to Abanga, he reached personal terms with Kotoko and took Gh¢10,000 in cash before finding out that Hearts of Oak had agreed on a deal with Dormaahene for his transfer.

Speaking with Sometymer Otuo Acheampong on YouTube, Abanga recounted that he had signed a pre-contract, took the money in cash, and started training for three weeks before Aduana summoned him to return to the club.

“I informed Zico (Aduana official) that Kotoko had engaged me, and he said I should tell them (Kotoko) the money I wanted. So I quoted Gh¢100,000, and they agreed. They brought a cheque, but Zico advised that I take cash. Hearts, on the other hand, had dissolved their management, so it was only Saban Quaye who constantly spoke to me. He told me not to join Kotoko,” he said.

“Kotoko gave me the Gh¢100,000, and I had no option but to sign. I signed the contract and started training for about three weeks before Aduana wrote to Kotoko and demanded that I return to the club,” he added.

He continued that in response, Kotoko advised him to hold a press conference and plead with Dormaahene to let him join the Reds and was also taught to cry in front of the press.

“They said I should meet the press and beg Dormaahene to let me play for Kotoko because I’ve already signed. They even taught me how to cry, and I executed it perfectly.”

Abanga further narrated that he got invited by Dormaahene after the presser, where he was told to return Kotoko’s money and sign for Hearts of Oak because there was an earlier agreement.

“Dormaahene invited me and said he had given my card to Hearts of Oak already because I had agreed to play for Hearts of Oak in a prior conversation. So he suggested that I sign for Hearts of Oak and return Kotoko’s money.”

“Kotoko had promised to buy my mother a house, but the reality was that I had to sign for Hearts of Oak.”

Kofi Abanga’s spell at Hearts of Oak was eclipsed by consistent injuries, preventing him from reaching his full potential.

In recent interviews, he blamed his career on injuries and taking injections to play in big games for Hearts of Oak.

“I had to be injected so many times to play during Hearts of Oak-Asante Kotoko games. I thought the club was going to treat me after the game. Later I went for surgery, and I was unable to rediscover my form after that. I really struggled before I left the club.”
