An Arizona sheriff is blocking FBI access to key evidence in the investigation into the abduction of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, a source told Reuters on Thursday.

The FBI asked Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos for physical evidence in the case, including a glove and DNA from the home of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, to be processed at the FBI’s national crime laboratory in Quantico, Virginia.

But Nanos has insisted instead on using a private lab in Florida.

Officials are seeking to question a man wearing a backpack who was seen on video just a few miles from Nancy Guthrie’s home the night she was abducted.

A source familiar with the investigation told Fox News that police would look to bring the man in for questioning after seeing the footage that was captured just hours after she vanished on February 1. In the video, the individual appears to unsuccessfully attempt to scale a fence before walking out of camera view.

A white forensics tent was spotted outside Nancy’s Arizona home early Thursday morning as the search for her whereabouts entered its 12th day.

It comes as the FBI is combing through the rugged terrain around Savannah Guthrie’s mother’s $1 million Tucson, Arizona, home, where she was abducted from the early hours of February 1.

Investigators have been inundated with thousands of tips after publishing doorbell camera footage showing a male figure wearing a ski mask and thick gloves approaching Nancy’s residence, then realizing the camera was recording him and tearing it off.

FBI release new description of Nancy Guthrie suspect and info on backpack

The FBI on Thursday released more information about the suspect in the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.

‘The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’9” – 5’10” tall, with an average build,’ read a statement from Phoenix FBI.

‘In the video, he is wearing a black, 25-liter ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack.’

The agency added that they have received more than 13,000 tips in the case.

Nancy Guthrie made posts on a neighborhood app that revealed she had previous run-ins with criminals outside her $1 million home and the reason she decided to buy a doorbell camera.

The 84-year-old mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie was taken from her home in the upscale Catalina Foothills neighborhood of Tucson, Arizona in the early morning hours of February 1.

She had lived in the home since 1975, raising her three children there, according to her profile on Nextdoor.

Nancy Guthrie cops seeking to question individual seen with a backpack on video

The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department are looking to question man with a backpack captured on video just miles from Nancy Guthrie’s home the night she vanished, according to Fox News.

In the video, the individual, wearing a grey windbreaker and a backpack, appears to unsuccessfully attempt to scale a fence before walking out of camera view.

Earlier in the week, the FBI released surveillance footage of a subject wearing similar attire and a ski mask from February 1, shortly before Nancy was taken from her home.

Police launch a video evidence portal web page in Nancy Guthrie search

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has launched a video evidence webpage and urged Arizona residents to upload surveillance tape in part of Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping investigation.

Investigators are requesting a month of video from neighbors near Nancy’s residence – a two mile radius of East Skyline Drive and North Campbell Avenue.

Police are seeking video showing vehicles, traffic, pedestrians or any other unusual activity on surveillance footage. Cops are urging video submission recorded between Jan 1 2026 and Feb 2 2026.

The link for the portal can be found here.

Outfit clues that can unmask Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapper: Suspect’s distinctive backpack, gloves and holster traced to Tucson Walmart

Grainy. Fleeting. Less than a minute in total. But for detectives investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie from a quiet Tucson foothills home, the newly-recovered doorbell footage is dynamite.

The black-and-white images – released by the FBI in what officials describe as the first major break in the case – show a masked, armed figure on the porch of her $1 million home in the early hours of Sunday, February 1.

The individual appears to tamper with the doorbell camera, at one point holding a flashlight in their mouth while adjusting the device. It is the first time investigators and the public have seen the suspect.

Savannah Guthrie asked for help in ‘hour of desperation’

Savannah Guthrie asked the nation for help in finding her missing mother as her family is in an ‘hour of desperation’ on Tuesday.

‘We need your help. Law enforcement is working tirelessly around the clock to bring her home, trying to find her. She was taken, and we don’t know where,’ she said.

‘I’m coming on, just ask you not just for your prayers but, no matter where you are, even if you’re far from Tucson, if you see anything, if you hear anything, if there is anything at all that seems strange to you, that you report to law enforcement.’

She concluded, ‘We are at an hour of desperation, and we need your help.’

    Nancy Guthrie’s last Facebook posts

Nancy Guthrie’s last Facebook posts before she vanished have been revealed.

The 84-year-old, who is the mom of Today host Savannah Guthrie, posted about Alex Pretti, the Minneapolis ICU nurse that was shot dead by ICE last month, in the days before she was last seen at her Arizona home.

Just a few minutes before that, Nancy had also shared an informational post about tile-based game Mahjong – in particular how to receive help selecting the 2025 National Mah Jongg League card.

Savannah Guthrie’s NBC colleagues push for Dateline episode about Nancy

NBC is facing an internal dilemma over whether to turn the kidnapping of Savannah Guthrie’s elderly mother into what insiders believe could be the network’s highest-rated Dateline episode, the Daily Mail can reveal.

Multiple sources told the Daily Mail that network executives are ‘uncomfortable’ with discussions about covering the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, 84, due to the optics of NBC taking advantage of one of their stars’ tragic ordeal.

Sheriff’s office will us Neighbors App to contact residents

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said it will use the Neighbors App to contact residents near Nancy Guthrie’s house.

‘The Pima County Sheriff’s Department periodically uses the Neighbors App to contact residents with home surveillance cameras,’ the department said.

‘Requests will come from “Pima County Sheriff’s Department” with a blue checkmark. Please verify legitimate posts before sharing.’

Where evidence was found on Nancy Guthrie’s porch

Investigators briefly put up a white tent in front of Nancy Guthrie’s front porch today.

Here is what we know about the evidence found on the porch so far.

Nancy’s doorbell camera was disconnected at 1.47am on February 1.

Newly recovered footage shows an armed and masked individual tampering with the doorbell camera.

The person picked up plants and attempted to cover the doorbell camera.

The plants were pictured among the blood found on her porch, which authorities have confirmed belongs to Nancy.
