Acclaimed Ghanaian gospel singer, Esther Smith, has revealed how a church charged her an amount she describes as absurd for using its premises.

In an interview with Kobby Kyei, shared on social media, Esther Smith revealed that a church, whose name she declined to mention, charged her GH¢60,000 to use its auditorium for her December concert.

According to the singer, the amount was outrageous, especially considering that they still had to hire additional chairs, as those available at the venue were insufficient.

“The church charged us GH¢60,000 for using the auditorium. We even had to hire extra chairs because the ones there were not enough. We used the place for just one night. It was too much,” she said.

Esther Smith noted that if the same church were to invite her to perform, she would equally charge them a high amount, adding that her colleagues should also demand fair payment when pastors invite them to minister.

Esther further disclosed that another church she had previously donated to refused to rent out its auditorium for her concert simply because she was not a member.

“If such a pastor calls me to perform, I will equally charge the same amount. We even asked them to reduce the fee they were charging, but they insisted on the GH¢60,000. We didn’t ask them to give us the place for free.

“I remember I used to donate to another church back in the day. Can you believe that when we approached them to rent their auditorium for my show, they told us they don’t rent their premises to non-members? I was really pained by what they did,” she added.
