Aburi Girls’ SHS delivered an exceptional basketball display to be crowned champions of the 2026 Eastern Regional Super Zonal Girls’ Basketball competition for the third consecutive year.

They defeated St. Paul’s SHS (PASCO) 13–4 in the finals held at the Koforidua Sports Stadium.

The three-day championship, held from February 4–6 at Pope John Secondary School and Junior Seminary and the Koforidua Sports Stadium, attracted the top 15 schools from across the region.

Participating schools included St. Rose’s SHS, Abuakwa State College, Ghana SHS, Okuapemman SHS, Asuom SHS, Suhum SHS, Oyoko Methodist SHS, as well as New Juaben SHS, Abomosu STEM SHS, Nkawkaw SHS, Akwamuman SHS, PRESEC–Begoro, St Paul’s SHS, Adombire Akolga, and Yilo Krobo SHS.

In the finals, point guard Mary and shooting guard Juliet Animdee combined effectively with Miriam Akweley Dzikunu, Martha Akuorkor Dzikunu, and Valarie Boateng to stop the girls from PASCO.

A powerhouse in the sport, Aburi Girls entered the competition as reigning champions and blew apart St. Rose’s SHS 26–2 and Abuakwa State College (ABUSCO) 16–0 to secure maximum points and top their group.

Displaying outstanding discipline, teamwork, and tactical awareness, the “Bepɔw So Hann Nyame Ne Hene” side went on to defeat Suhum SHS 26–2 in the quarter-finals, while Akwamuman SHS won 23–4 in the semi-finals to set up the final showdown with St. Paul’s SHS.

An elated Head Coach of the Aburi Girls’ team, Hadad Bempah, praised the high-level performance displayed by the team in overpowering the rest of the pack to deliver a third straight title under his leadership.

According to him, the success story would not have been possible without the unflinching support of the school’s management and the Old Student Association.

The school also achieved success in other sports, placing third in table tennis and fourth in both handball and badminton competitions.
