The 2026 inter-schools competitions taking place across the country have been marred by unfortunate incidents that endangered the lives of students.

The issues began in the Ashanti Region, where clashes between students at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium escalated into the destruction of seats.

The chaos intensified when reports from the Eastern Region indicated that some students raped a female colleague during the games, while others fought and eventually stabbed one of their peers.

    Baba Yara Stadium Vandalism

Chaotic scenes erupted at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium during the inter-schools competition for Senior High Schools in the Ashanti Region.

In a viral video, aggrieved students were seen fighting each other while others threw objects across the stands. During the brawl, some student cadets rushed to the scene in an attempt to restore order but struggled to calm tensions.

Reports indicated that nearly 300 seats were destroyed, as some students removed them and hurled them at their opponents.

    Stabbing

A student of Koforidua Senior High Technical School (SECTECH) was hospitalised after being stabbed during disturbances linked to the Eastern Regional Inter-Schools Sports Festival.

The victim, identified as Jerome Appiah, was reportedly attacked by some form two students of New Juaben Senior High School while he was eating waakye on his way back to campus.

He suffered a deep machete wound to the shoulder and lost a significant amount of blood.

Police from the Eastern Regional Command swiftly responded to the incident and rushed the injured student to the Eastern Regional Hospital, where he received treatment. Hospital sources confirmed that Jerome Appiah was in stable condition.

In the aftermath of the attack, the Headmaster of Koforidua SECTECH, Emmanuel Frimpong Benjabeng, together with staff members, hurried to the Koforidua Youth Resource Centre, the main venue for the inter-schools sports festival to calm tensions and prevent retaliatory attacks by angry students.

    Gang Rape

A female student of Osino Presbyterian Senior High School was allegedly gang-raped in Koforidua.

According to a report by GHOne on February 6, 2026, the alleged incident occurred during the inter-schools sports festival in Koforidua.

The victim was reportedly found in a visibly weak condition and was first taken to the police station before being referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital for medical attention.
