Lawyer and activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has said his decision to consistently protest and speak against injustice is not motivated by a belief that Ghana’s leaders will necessarily change, but by a personal resolve to remain true to his principles.

In a Facebook post dated February 6, 2026, Barker-Vormawor addressed a question he says he is often asked — whether he truly believes his activism can influence political leaders.

He clarified that changing those in power is not the primary reason for his actions.

According to him, his activism is not aimed at reforming those in power but at ensuring that he himself does not become compromised by the very system he criticises.

“The reason why I do what I do isn’t so that I can change our leaders. It is so they don’t change me,” he stated.

I’ve always been thirsty for a coup of the mindset – Barker-Vormawor

He said speaking out serves as a reminder to resist the temptation of abandoning convictions for personal benefit.

Barker-Vormawor noted that the real struggle for freedom goes beyond confronting unjust leadership and extends to battling personal greed and moral weakness.

He warned against the lure of wealth and status, describing them as forces that can quietly erode integrity.

Baker-Vormawor further explained that resisting the desire for ill-gotten wealth, often symbolised by luxury cars and mansions, is central to maintaining moral clarity.

He stressed that silencing such internal temptations is key to genuine freedom.
