Nkawie Senior High Technical School (SHTS) has been handed a two-year ban for allegedly inciting chaos that led to the destruction of seats at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

According to Sporty FM, investigations conducted by the Sports and Colleges Federation revealed that students from the school triggered attacks on other students, which escalated into chaos.

This resulted in students removing seats and throwing them at their opponents, while others were destroyed during the fight, hence the ban.

The report added that repairing the damaged seats would cost the nation about GH¢1.5 million, likely to be funded through taxes.

“Nkawie SHTS slapped with a 2-year ban from all sporting activities by the Schools and Colleges Federation for triggering attacks on other schools that led to the destruction of seats at Baba Yara Stadium,” Sporty FM reported on X on January 4, 2026.

    About the incident

Chaotic scenes erupted at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium during the 2026 Inter-Schools competition for Senior High Schools in the Ashanti Region.

In a viral video, aggrieved students were seen fighting each other while others threw objects across the stands. During the brawl, some student cadets rushed to the scene in an attempt to restore order but struggled to calm tensions.

The report indicated that nearly 300 seats were destroyed, as some students removed them and hurled them at their opponents.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness narrating events in the video condemned the mayhem and the destruction of national property, stressing that the repairs would cost the nation significantly.

He attributed the chaos to poor security arrangements.
